The editorial challenge

TOWIE was created to air in the same week it was filmed, and its editorial language still depends on that sense of immediacy. Although the series is now pre-recorded, every episode must feel topical and current. Around 30 unscripted scenes form the building blocks of each show, with the cast guided on the subjects to discuss rather than working from a script.

02

Storytelling approach

Editors and edit producers begin by pulling each story into a long cut. These early assemblies are viewed by the executive producers at the start of the week, establishing the shape and priorities of the episode. The programme is then divided between five edit teams, with each team taking responsibility for a section and refining its story, character looks, reactions, pacing and music.

03

Turnaround and workflow

Each episode is built and locked within a one-week edit. There are several executive views as the cut develops, with notes addressed and the five sections brought together into a consistent whole before the final show locks on Thursday night. The workflow demands fast, confident decisions and close collaboration across every edit team.

04

Contribution

Across series 31–36, I shaped allocated story scenes into polished, broadcast-ready sections while ensuring they fitted seamlessly into the wider episode. Between scenes, I created music-driven montages that connect storylines, maintain momentum and give the show its pace and gloss.
